The late Dr. Gus Van Beek was, for many years, Curator for Anthropology at the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution. He directed the excavation of the site of Tell Jemmeh in Israel and worked extensively in the Arabian Peninsula. His sherd collection, informally gathered from many sites across the Levant, provides a valuable diachronic teaching tool for the archaeology program at SWBTS. A number of stone implements were also donated as part of the collection. The Smithsonian donated the collection to SWBTS through the auspices of Mr. Ronald Gardiner, who worked for many years as Dr. Van Beek’s Field Director and as a research assistant at the Smithsonian.
